A very long love story ties the Di Luca family to the art of cameo. Everything started in the Fifties, in Torre del Greco, Naples, when Michele Di Luca’s dream came true: to create his first jewel on cameo shell.
Since then, the Di Luca family is heir and witness of a culture handed down from a generation to another, in a world where space and time are merged for the sake of an art that holds past, present and future.
Today we are with Gino Di Luca, owner of Cammeo Italiano.
Q. In which sense the company history and handicraft have been important in the evolution of a traditional product?
Cameo Italiano is born after 30 years of family production of cameos, with an high level of artistic and technical consistency. Our mission is to innovate the traditional art of the cameo through collections with an higher level of usability. In this sense we have set a balance between the quality and creativity of our engravings, and the price of our piece of jewellery, so as to reach a new kind of target client.
Q. What does inspire you?
Beauty in every shape and expression has been the inspiration of three generation involved in the same ambitious company project. The inspiration starts from a thrill of the heart, expressed through materials and shapes. In this sense Cammeo Italiano disagrees with who chases trends and ever-changing tastes. Every piece of Cammeo Italiano’s collection is the materialization of an universal ideal of beauty, an essential content of every piece of jewellery.
Q. Which are the markets for Cammeo Italiano outside Italy?
Japan has represented the first international customer. Our brand conveys all the features of Italy- art, history, creativity, quality and design- and this is exactly what a foreign customer is looking for. We have tried to focus our production on these peculiarities and now our collections are appreciated also in Greece, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, Rumania, Korea, Russia and in many more.
