The History of Gelato
Picture 2 of 7
The beloved ice cream was invented by Bernardo Buontalenti, exponent of the Florentine Reinassance and responsible for preparing spectacular court parties for the ladies of Florence, from which came the invention of gelato. In 1559 Buontalenti presented a new cream with a base of milk, honey, egg and wine for the inaugural banquet of Belvedere fortress. His cold cream flavored with bergamot, lemon and orange is the base of the Florentine Cream which you can still enjoy in the best ice cream shops in Florence.
